In the late summer sun, shining down over Ashby de la Zouch, Euro Projects Recruitment and nine teams from local clients got together to put on a festival of football for their families, friends and fans and to support local hospice charity, LOROS.
Two groups of five teams played to a very high standard, with the top two teams from each group going through to the semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals going through to the final, for what was a very exciting and competitive afternoon.
The excitement began to build as teams arrived and eyed up their competition, many recognising old friends and acquaintances, providing some impromptu reunions and networking.
Between the fun and excitement on the pitches, participants and their supporters were also treated to pizzas and drinks from Sever’s Woodfired Pizza Oven trailer, and as the event unfolded action shots were captured by our own photographer Abigail Brown.
All the games were extremely entertaining, with plenty of goals (and the occasional own goal!), with competitive and closely matched quarterfinals, semi’s and a nail biting final where both teams, now very tired seemed to cancel each other out with defending players and goalkeepers doing their best to keep the scores even.
The final match finished 1-1 which meant the 2023 Loros Cup would be settled by a penalty shootout. Euro Projects went on to lift the cup with a 3-2 victory on penalties, providing a dramatic ending to what was a fantastic afternoon.
Great fun and good sport were had by all, in what has been widely requested to become an annual event which raised an incredible £1,420 for a superb local charity!
