Mechanical Design Engineer

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading UK manufacturer specialising in bespoke special purpose machinery, material handling systems, and conveyor equipment for the food and beverage industry.

This varied Mechanical Design Engineer role offers the chance to work on multiple engineering design projects at any given time, collaborating closely with onsite manufacturing and production teams to deliver high-quality engineered solutions.

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in machinery design, fabrication design, or conveyor systems. Experience using Autodesk Inventor is highly desirable, although candidates with SolidWorks CAD experience will also be considered.

Working Hours

• Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 4:00pm

• Friday: 7:00am – 12:00pm

Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities

• Design bespoke special purpose machinery, conveyor systems, and material handling equipment using Autodesk Inventor CAD software

• Produce detailed mechanical engineering drawings and fabrication designs

• Work closely with production and manufacturing teams to optimise designs for fabrication and assembly

• Manage multiple mechanical design projects simultaneously

• Liaise with customers and manage project expectations

• Carry out engineering problem solving and develop practical design solutions

• Prepare technical reports and supporting documentation

• Order materials including laser cut, folded parts, and raw materials

• Conduct occasional site surveys for production line layouts and machinery installations

Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer, or Project Design Engineer

• Experience designing special purpose machinery, conveyors, material handling equipment, or fabricated machinery

• HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

• Strong CAD design experience using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks

• Knowledge of metal fabrication and manufacturing processes

• Ability to coordinate projects, prioritise workloads, and solve engineering problems effectively

• Food and beverage industry experience would be advantageous
