| Additional Information Our client is creating over 200 automotive research, development and design jobs in the East Midlands, with their investment in a new Research Centre focusing on powertrain, transmission and hybrid electric vehicle technology. To support the launch of this brand new facility, opportunities exist for commercial and technical specialists with experience for the following opportunity: This newly created post reporting to the Board of UK Operations will play a significant role in the set up and development of the company’s new facility policies, procedures, operating standards and systems. Our client is building it’s capability in leading edge automotive transmission and driveline technology. Looking forward they expect to grow the business rapidly and continue to invest heavily in development and technical expertise to underpin this expansion. They now require a Chief Engineer to exploit these opportunities on a global basis. Job Specification: Proven track record in setting divisional strategy for growth, specifying, recruiting and leading engineering teams and managing large outsourced consultancy projects, including: · Ability to make sound engineering judgements including strategic direction of future technologies. · Commanding respect of direct reports, peers and senior managers. · Appreciation of manufacturing and assembly for automobile transmission and powertrain systems. · Commercial awareness. Experience and Skills: · Ideally the successful candidate will be an experienced department manager or director with experience in the set up and management of a high technology facility within the automobile R&D sector, or will have overseen the step change growth of a similar organisation. · Candidates with chartered engineer status and commercial qualifications such as an MBA will have a distinct advantage. · You will also need to be degree qualified in mechanical or automotive engineering, with at least 5 years experience in the detailed principles of engineering and have in depth knowledge in two or more of the following areas: · Castings · Control Mechanisms · Gears and Geared Mechanisms · Shaft and Bearing Systems · Tolerancing Analysis · Lubrication · Synchronisers · Clutches · Specific experience of DCT, hybrids or other similar transmission systems is highly desirable. · It would be advantageous to have a foreign language such as German, French, Korean, Japanese or Mandarin. · You will have an ability to innovate, create, analyse and interrogate concepts and data; coupled with a willingness to develop and coach others. |
